2007 Mainship 430 Trawler

This customer has been with Yacht-HQ since 2018. They suffered a broken shaft in 2025 while cruising the Abacos. We helped them perform emergency repairs so they could be towed back to Florida… and you guessed it… They came straight to Fort Pierce so that we could evaluate the damage and perform the necessary repairs.

Of course we took care of the running gear:

  • Sent all of the props, shafts, and couplers to our favorite prop shop to check everything out and fabricate a new shaft.
  • Replaced cutless bearings.
  • Installed the new shaft and re-installed the shaft seals, couplers, and props.
  • Aligned the engines.

As long as the boat was in the yard anyway, the customer asked us to take care of a number of other things as well:

  • Diagnose/Repair Bow & Stern thrusters. This turned out to be a failed battery switch and two bad batteries… which we replaced.
  • Check HVAC systems. The main condensing unit was low on refrigerant. We also found that the unit was drawing a lot more amps than it should be, which is a pretty good indication that the compressor is living on borrowed time.
  • The PORT engine raw water pump had a leaking lip seal so we replaced it.
  • The old galley stove wasn’t working properly so we replaced it with a brand new Force 10.
  • We upgraded the water heater from 120V to 240V.
  • The old galley freezer wasn’t working properly so we replaced it with a brand new Frigoboat freezer.
  • We replaced the failed dryer exhaust duct.
  • We repaired and refinished some interior woodwork that was damaged during a very rough Gulf Stream crossing (while being towed).
  • We found and repaired a small steering fluid leak at the lower helm. Someone had installed a VENTED cap at the lower helm – a rookie mistake. We replaced this with the correct NON-VENTED part.
