1988 Shannon 43

These Shannons are beautiful, and this one in particular is a great example.

Customer brought the boat down to Florida from Long Island in order to spend the winter cruising the Bahamas, but of course there are always a few things that need to be fixed before departing for the islands.

Yacht-HQ went through the boat and addressed a variety of issues:

  •  Replaced shoddy battery cabling and installed proper overcurrent protection as per ABYC E-11.
  • Replaced motor mounts and aligned the engine.
  • Replaced failed B&G hydraulic steering ram.
  • Replaced a leaking (improperly installed) seacock.
  • Serviced all of the original Spartan seacocks (this MUST be done properly!)
  • Re-packed the rudder and prop shaft packing glands (stuffing boxes).
  • Repaired seized centerboard and replaced the original (worn out) lifting cable/pulley assembly.
  • Replaced bow thruster switches in cockpit.
  • Serviced manual toilet pumps.

While the boat was out of the water we also recommended a fresh coat of bottom paint. The previous paint was applied without proper prep work and was peeling/flaking in several places. Here again, the joy of saving money in the short term (on inferior products & labor) is nothing compared to the pain of having to spend more in the long run.
